Privacy Policy

BusMap is built to show public transit information with as little personal data as possible. This policy explains what the app and website do and do not collect.

Information We Do Not Collect

BusMap does not ask for your name, email address, account login, precise device location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, or advertising identifier. BusMap does not use third-party advertising trackers.

Information Stored On Your Device

The app may store your selected transit agency, favorite routes and stops, and a small cache of route and vehicle data on your device so the app opens faster and remembers your preferences. Favorites may be shared with the BusMap widget through Apple's App Group storage. This information stays on your device and is not tied to an account.

Transit Data Requests

BusMap requests route, stop, arrival, and vehicle information from our backend service. Those requests may include public route IDs, stop IDs, agency IDs, and similar transit identifiers needed to return the information you requested.

Optional Anonymous Analytics And Diagnostics

Anonymous analytics are off by default and can be controlled in the app's Settings screen. If you turn them on, BusMap may send coarse events such as viewing the home or map screen, adding or removing a favorite, opening a favorite, or returning from a widget. Journey events include only an allowlisted event name, app area, route-or-stop category, transit agency, app version, build number, and platform. They do not include the favorited route or stop ID, a user or device ID, an advertising identifier, precise location, or the contents of your favorites.

With analytics enabled, the app may also send launch metadata and error reports to help identify app versions that need attention. BusMap limits telemetry retention and caps the number of stored events. You can turn analytics off at any time without affecting transit features.

Server Logs

Like most internet services, our backend and website host may process basic technical logs such as request time, requested URL, IP address, user agent, and error information. We use these logs to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve BusMap.

Data Sources

BusMap displays transit schedule and realtime data from public transit feeds. This data may be delayed, unavailable, or changed by the transit agency.

Children's Privacy

BusMap is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as BusMap changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new last updated date.
